The Assistant Head, Upper School will be part of the Upper School Senior Leadership Team and school-wide Leadership Team which are responsible for maintaining congruence between the school’s mission statement and all academic activities, and helping to maintain a positive and mission appropriate environment for all members of the Upper School community. The Assistant Head, Upper School will hold specific responsibility for Student Life.
This position reports to the Head of Upper School and is a full-time position that will be based at our Upper School campus.

- Attends major functions of the Upper School and acts as a spokesperson for the School.
- Ensures that student discipline is fair, consistent and enables self-reflection and changed behavior.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees the Student Support and University and Guidance Counselling programs.
- Oversees the Advisory program.
- Oversees the Co-curricular program including assemblies.
- Co-leads the creation of Upper School timetables and leads in developing the Upper School calendar.
- Conducts summative and formative evaluations using the professional development framework.
- Assists the Head of Upper School in effective recruiting and hiring for the Upper School.
- Attends annual summer Leadership Retreats and any other similar events to advance the work of the team.
Skills and Experience
- Ontario College of Teachers Certification.
- Masters in Educational Leadership or equivalent.
- Completion of CAIS Leadership and/or PQPs is considered an asset.
- Extensive skills in strategic thinking and communication with broad experience teaching and leading adolescents in independent schools. Experience in an IB school is an asset.
- Initiative in abundance, demonstrated ability to explore innovative ideas and solutions, and capacity to work independently.
- ·Superior competencies in relationship building, leadership, and planning.
- At least 5 years of leadership experience as an educator in senior administration.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes:
- University degree in Math or Sciences.
- Ontario College of Teachers Certification
- Over 3 years teaching experience in defined subject matter area
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) experience is considered a strong asset
- Ability to instruct in a laptop environment
- A current Vulnerable Sector Check
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification

TMS is seeking a motivated and inspiring professional as its next Director of Development. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with a supportive leadership team, talented faculty, staff, and students, and highly engaged parents and volunteers in a School that has a great story to tell. Ideally, the appointment will be effective in the spring of 2024.
Internationally recognized since 1961, TMS is a leading independent school offering a unique combination of Montessori and International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes in exceptional facilities on two campuses in Richmond Hill, Ontario. A Montessori approach to learning is expertly delivered at the Lower School from Toddler through Grade 6 before students transition to the Upper School, where the IB curriculum is delivered through both the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. With approximately 900 students ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years, TMS delivers an engaging, highly acclaimed educational experience focusing on knowing every child uniquely. The ideal candidate is an engaging visionary with strong strategic and conceptual fundraising skills. They have experience with building a culture of giving within organizations and are respected by peers and staff as a compelling communicator, a trusted and sought out relationship builder, and a highly effective motivator. The capacity and commitment to drive fundraising/development growth in times of economic pressure and the flexibility and resilience to act as a public face for the School with current and prospective donors will be highly valued. As an experienced fundraising/development leader, they are known to set clear priorities, achieve targets and deadlines, and rally internal and external communities around a shared vision. Prior experience in independent schools or the not-for-profit sector will be an asset.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Community Development and working closely with the Head of School, the Leadership Team, and the Directors of Enrolment Management, Marketing & Communications, and Alumni & Community Relations, the Director of Development will advise on all aspects of matters related to philanthropy in policies, procedures, best practices, and emerging trends.
