Head of Elementary

Head of Elementary

TMS has a thriving Elementary Program (Grades 1-6) with a skilled faculty and almost 300 students who achieve extraordinary results. Due to a retirement, TMS is looking for a dynamic leader to join our senior leadership team and inspire this program to further growth and significance. Reporting to the Head of School, the Head of Elementary will be responsible for leading the Elementary Program, a key component of the TMS student journey that starts with our Toddler Program and finishes at our Grade 12 graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Constantly, with obvious passion and clarity, tell and role model an engaging and attractive story of the value of the Elementary Program at TMS.
  • As a senior school leader, assist in implementing the school’s strategic plan specifically as it can be animated within the TMS Elementary Program.
  • Maintain and enhance the quality of academics so that TMS’ reputation as a place of academic excellence is maintained and grown.
  • Develop an authentic and purposeful animation of the phrase I Am Known so that each child’s journey through Elementary is based on their unique needs and potential both academically and personally.
  • Maintain and enhance the Montessori expertise at TMS and grow the reputation of that expertise in the larger community.
  • Oversee the professional growth pathway of each faculty member, including meaningful goal setting and evaluation.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of school-parent communications in a manner that reflects the TMS commitment to supporting students and their families.
  • Lead the Elementary Program’s day-to-day operations in a highly effective and organized manner.
  • Work with TMS’ Admissions Department to attract and retain excellent students in a welcoming environment.

Skills/Experience/Education

  • University education with Teacher qualifications with Montessori teacher training diploma strongly preferred
  • Extensive history of classroom teaching experience
  • Several years of demonstrated academic leadership
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of parents
  • Evidence of ability to lead and inspire faculty members
  • Proven experience in integrating effective new ideas into a Montessori pedagogy

Excellent abilities to manage and oversee all aspects of an academic department

Ability to think and act strategically

  • Ability to collaborate and innovate to realize the vision and strategic goals of the school as outlined in the strategic plan

Human Resources Coordinator - Contract

Human Resources Coordinator
Contract - duration to be determined

TMS is a thriving School with a strong faculty and staff, and a desire to remain an employer of choice for top talent. Due to a medical absence, the School has a contract position available for an uncertain duration of not less than three months. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for administering the Human Resources function for an employee complement of about 140 salaried and hourly staff.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the contract administration process.
  • Manages recruitment, selection, and placement activities for the School, including advertisements, review of applications, recommendations, screening, interviewing, and reference checking
  • Counsels employees and managerial staff on applicable School Human Resources policies, procedures, and legal obligations
  • Facilitates the job evaluation process, ensures job evaluation policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Maintains records pertaining to past and current employees consistent with good practice and government regulations
  • Maintains the HR Database

Skills/Experience/Education

  • University education, CHRP preferred.
  • Three or more years of relevant experience
  • Able to communicate effectively with employees from diverse backgrounds
  • Possesses sound administrative experience

IT User Support Specialist

IT User Support Specialist

TMS is looking to support technology users and advance its use of technology in the classroom and in administration. As a result, the school is looking for an individual who wants to be an integral part of our dynamic team and who is both technologically sound and patient and friendly with users. Reporting to the I.T. Supervisor, the User Support Specialist will be responsible for the troubleshooting and resolution of tickets in the Helpdesk system.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first level technical support to end users using TMS hardware and software at two campuses, including break-fix, trouble-shooting, diagnosis, repair, and training
  • Support TMS applications including e-mail, Internet access, LMS, SIS, and databases
  • Provide A/V support to users and for events
  • Work with other digital systems including security, mobile communications, and building maintenance
  • Travel between campuses and weekend/after-hours work and on-call support is required

Skills/Experience/Education

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or similar
  • 2-3 years experience in technical support and customer service
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Windows 7/8/10, MS Office
  • Knowledge of macOS an asset
  • Understanding of networking concepts
  • Able to work with other staff from diverse backgrounds in identifying and applying appropriate technological solutions
  • A strong end user focus and desire to create satisfied customers
  • Experience in an educational environment is strongly preferred

Cleaner/Facilities Assistant

Cleaner/Facilities Assistant

Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, the Cleaner/Facilities Assistant will be responsible for the day to day custodial, set-up and preventive maintenance duties at our Upper School Campus in Richmond Hill. Duties will include housekeeping, security, daily/weekly inspections, kitchen cleaning, snow removal and ice control, cleaning washrooms and hallways, moving supplies and equipment, setting up spaces for events and occasional minor plumbing, painting and mechanical work. The incumbent will work from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm Monday through Friday during school year and 7:00am to 4:00pm during months of July and August; rotating weekend on-call availability will be required.

The successful candidate will be physically able to perform a wide range of duties, have experience in a similar role, communicate effectively with contractors and other staff, and be a self-starter with attention to detail, able to work independently and as part of a team. Current CPR and First Aid training is required and formal training in one or more of the above areas would be considered an asset.
