Athletics
The aim of the Middle Years Physical Education Program is to facilitate lifelong learning and participation in regards to physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. This program engages students in activities that are not only enjoyable but also contribute to life long healthy living. Students are provided with valuable opportunities for to acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding across a range of disciplines. At TMS students feel psychologically safe and willing to risk attempting new skills and activities. They learn to act as principled participants as they engage in a variety of team and individual physical activities that reward, inspire and further develop movement and performance skills, tactical play and personal fitness.
The Physical Education Program is tailored to mirror our Co-Curricular Athletic Offerings, so students have many opportunities to build their fitness and sport specific skills that enhance their experience as individual competitors and team members. As part of our program the School offers a range of sports and activities using excellent off campus facilties within the local community including:
Squash (Richmond Hill Squash Club, RHSC)
Skating and Ringette (National Training Rinks, NTR)
Weight Training and Fitness (Fitness Connection)
Curling (Richmond Hill Curling Club, RHCC)
We facilitate a solid MYP physical education curriculum that serves as a gateway for students to build physical fitness and movement ompetence; enable students to build confidence and be healthy, active, balanced, knowledgeable and contributing members of the local and global community for life.

Athletic Philosophy
Our intent is to maximize participation, so all students have an opportunity to experience the rewards ofteamwork and the enjoyment of individual competition. We manage this through offering a broad range
of athletic teams and clubs. The focus of our athletic program is to learn and apply a variety of life skills while further refining and improving sport specific skills. Programs focus on teaching the fundamentals of the games, skill development, responsibility and sportsmanship, and building an interest in maintaining a sound mind and body for life!
Program Specific Goals:
Further developing levels of skill, speed, agility, aerobic training, strength and flexibility
Further developing all fundamental movement skills; teaching general, overall sports skills
Further developing mental strategies for effective and efficient play
Learning to cope with the physical and mental challenges of competition
Introducing time-management skills that allow and promote involvement in sport and recreation
Level of Competition:
The College and the Elementary students compete within the Small
Schools Athletic Federation (SSAF) http://www.ssaf.ca/.
The Athletic Club provides opportunities for students to be active
and participate in a variety of activities that provide fun and fitness.
