TMS is embarking on a significant new phase of our school journey...

Building Our Significance:
The Middle School

As our students graduate from our Lower School in Grade 6, and begin their high school journey at the Upper School in Grade 7,  it can take time to make this adjustment. It’s a new environment with new peers and a transition in pedagogy from the Montessori Programme to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme.

We want to ensure that these points of transition are as seamless as possible, setting our students up to succeed at every step of their educational journey. That’s why, as part of the continued growth of TMS and with an intentional focus on student social and emotional wellbeing, we are expanding our Upper School campus to include a new Middle School for Grade 7 and 8 students.

The Grade 7 and 8 experience is a unique time in students' lives as they navigate the halls of a new campus and pivot from the Montessori to the IB Programme.  Focusing the energy, enthusiasm, and camaraderie of students at this age in a dedicated space will allow them to discover their unique talents and abilities while adjusting more quickly to the academic demands of high school. “ - Mark Bunten, Guidance Counsellor, Upper School

Why It’s Important

Middle School students are just that – in the middle. They are ready to leave the confines of a single homeroom in Elementary, but need extra support to adapt to a high-school environment where they will see many different teachers every day. In this newly created Middle School, our Grade 7 and 8 students will thrive in a space they can call their own with areas to work collaboratively in small groups.

They will learn to transfer the skills and competencies learned within their Montessori education to their new IB environment, and enjoy the freedom and flexibility of the building’s uniquely designed layout to socialize with their peers.

When Will It Be Ready?

Construction of the new Middle School started this summer and will be open for students in Fall 2023.

As that date draws closer, we will continue to share more exciting information about the spaces, unique features, and programming.

We Need Your Help!

Purpose-driven builds like this one inspire us all to imagine what’s possible, but they also require the immense support of our School Community to bring our vision to fruition.

That’s why we’re asking you to support this project through a donation.

Your generosity can help to ensure our future Grade 7 and 8 students will have a dedicated and innovative setting in which to continue on their TMS Journey, intentionally designed for the needs of this age and stage.

Meet a Donor Family

The Dell’Elce and Sonego Families have been members of the TMS Community for over 14 years. With a combined six children currently at the School, each at different stages of their TMS Journey, these two families felt that it was important to support the School where their children have grown up. That’s why they made a Leadership Gift* to the TMS Capital Campaign that will be celebrated in the new Middle School.

"We wanted to give back to TMS so that future families and students can also benefit from the incredible experiences that we’ve had at this School. We hope others will join us."
