Extracurricular Activities

TMS offers a range of Extracurricular Programs for students in our Lower School (Children's House Year 1 to Grade 6). Discovering new interests, finding hidden talent and committing to something bigger than oneself are important moments in the growth of any child. Our Extracurricular Program supports that growth.

These programs run after school, some for eight weeks and others for the full year. The programs range in cost from $280 to $1,000 depending on topic and length. Some programs are open to students in Children's House while others are for Elementary students only. Extracurricular Programs are not part of our in-class work and are completely optional.

Students can choose from the following Extracurricular Programs during TERM 1 in the 2023/2024 Academic year (Term 2 and 3 Options will be posted through the year). Term 1 programs may be viewed by scrolling down below.

REGISTRATION OPENS: August 15, 2023 at 10 am

Creating New Accounts: The system is open from August 8, 2023 at 10 AM to August 10, 2023 12:00 pm for creating new accounts and for returning users to make sure they can log in. We suggest that you do this so when course registration opens, you will be ready to proceed. We also highly suggest you review the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) to know how to setup an account and what registration will look like.

Your classroom number is needed to set up and complete registration. If you have not received your class placement letter or have misplaced it you may call the school starting August 8th and they will help you with it.

REGISTER FOR EXTRACURRICULAR AND EXTENDED CARE PROGRAMS

Program registration is on a first come, first served basis. There are a limited number of students in each program. We require the minimum number of participants for a program to run. If this number is not reached, the program will be cancelled and a full refund will be given.

You must know your classroom number for next year to register. If you do not know that number you may call the school August 8th and they will help you with it.

We are unable to process late enrollment after August 22, 2023.

In order to register, you must complete the online registration form and submit payment by August 22, 2023 by 4:00 PM. In order for your registration to be confirmed, full payment must be made with a valid credit card (Visa or MasterCard) at the time of completing the online form.

Please Note:

Once a program has started, TMS cannot refund or pro-rate any payment for missed classes due to school co-curricular activities/events/trips and school closures or program cancellations due to inclement weather.

NO REFUND requests will be accepted after the registration deadline date.

TMS has the right to cancel or reschedule a program due to any school activities requiring the use of any facility. There will not be any make-up class(es) for school closures and program cancellations due to inclement weather.

Extracurricular Pick Up

Parents should park and enter the school through the main doors at the Atrium. Please have your parent badge clearly visible for the front desk receptionist. Proceed to your child’s assigned Extracurricular room for pick up. Programs end at 5:00 PM and students should be picked up promptly at that time.

Lifetime Skills Academy STEM Junior Genius At our Lifetime Skills Academy Junior STEM Genius program our students learn about astronomy, chemistry, earth science, animal life cycles, minerals & ores, among other topics in our programs. Students perform practical science experiments and reactions, learn photosynthesis by caring for plants, create early acceleration, engineering and physics experiments and leverage technology for maximum learning in each step. Our STEM Junior Genius is the perfect co-ed program to learn the fundamentals of the scientific principles and laws guiding the world, to be challenged and to thrive into future Geniuses.

Program Description: WeDo robotics is a tethered robotics system designed to serve as an intermediate step between the more fully featured robotics platform and regular, non Robotic Lego. During this course students will be building Lego models through easy-to-use sets that introduce young students to robotics and teach them to build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors; program their models; and explore a series of cross-curricular theme aimed at developing their STEM skills, as well as language and literacy. The hands-on sessions demonstrate how robots can be applied to problem solving and collaborative learning within a curriculum.

Space Adventure (Yoga and Dance Party) - CH2/3 - Tuesday

Program Description: Let’s put on our imaginary spacesuits and get ready for take-off! This is going to be an epic journey where we dance, play, and learn about gravity, space exploration, planets, and the solar system.

It is the year 2563 on planet Earth. We will start by following Maya and her two friends as they take their spaceship to outer space and encounter the black hole. We will practice shooting star and crescent moon yoga poses and learn a fun space-themed dance.

The focus of this program is on dance and yoga, with some elements of storytelling and acting/improvisation.

Program Description: The weekly soccer lessons are designed to maximize enjoyment for the participants and to improve physical abilities, build self-confidence, cultivate a foundation of good sportsmanship and the value of effort. Our goal is to produce confident, skilled soccer players who love the game of soccer and will reach their full potential. These lessons present a unique way for participants to build skill level by progressing the athletes through fundamental soccer skills in great detail each week. All athletes will receive progressive report cards. We are excited to have introduced our 5 Star development levels. Motivation, focus and understanding are all part of 5 criteria!

The soccer program is designed for beginners, intermediate and advanced kids.

LegoArchiTech - CH2/3 - Wednesday

Program Description: Lego Classic Engineering is designed for children and involves building structures, cars and different functional objects. The lessons in the class teach children how to plan for other physical challenges, design elements and work in collaboration. Students use Lego Education BricQ motion and Lego Classic Motion kits to build ideas that test early aspects of physics and mechanics. Children build projects solo and in pairs and have to present the object in public speaking practice at the end of each class. The students practice early public speaking skills, explaining their skills in the form of ideas, concept, and design. This is the perfect CO-ED program that develops critically-thinking leaders who understand engineering and science concepts while keeping children actively engaged and excited the entire time.

Program Description: Musical Theatre at any age can stimulate a lifelong love for performance, fun-filled storytelling, and character-building. Now you can tell the same stories as those you see on screen, with multiple lessons devoted to the most popular characters of children’s’ TV shows today!

Introducing Storytime Adventure Club, where “Chase is On the Case”, and so are you! Featuring a wide variety of weekly themes inspired by Peppa Pig, Frozen, Aladdin and Paw Patrol! Children will explore the story behind their favourite theme songs and participate in a wide range of activities like dancing, acting, imaginative play, and storytelling while developing confidence, concentration, memory, and presentation skills.

Program Description: Are you ready to take an imaginary journey to the Animal Kingdom? This immersive experience is perfect for the active and imaginative learner! Our journey will consist of exciting themed lessons that explore animals in different settings.

We will breathe like a lion, hiss like a snake, and move like a graceful giraffe! This series is designed to captivate every student through the exciting theme of animals. It incorporates playful Yoga balances, dance combinations, storytelling, and movement games. Program Description: Turn up the beat and get ready to groove! Hip Hop has served as a crucial creative outlet and community-builder for youth since the 1980s. Known for its fast and energetic pace, this creative form of dance is often seen in music videos.

Be prepared to learn the coolest moves and footwork! Students will be introduced to the elements of Hip Hop culture and learn beginner-level choreography. They will also get a chance to freestyle and add their own personality and flavour! Coolest moves and grooves, simple and fun choreography!

Program Description: Our 3D Design program teaches student how to design 3D projects using easy-to-use web-based technology. Students gain literacy and build mastery in 3D design for everyday usable custom projects such as custom key chains, cup holders, cups, flower pots, custom dice, as well as projects in city design, architecture and custom house design. Students learn how a 3D printer functions, how to export the file for printing from any 3D printer, how to scale and duplicate programs, and will have the opportunity to build print one simple project as part of the program to bring home. Program Description:

The Successful Leader teaches students the principles of modern leadership and self-appreciation. We work on promoting each student’s talent and potential and making them aware of their abilities. Students will focus on goal setting, productivity, prioritizing and mind mapping, all delivered through fun and engaging activities. The Successful Leader is built around three key principles of learning: active recall, interweaving knowledge and spaced learning. Program Description: Get ready to explore the world of abstract art in this exciting course for kids! Abstract art is all about imagination, creativity, and self-expression, and in this course, children will learn how to create their own abstract masterpieces using various images such as fruits, flowers, faces, animals, and shapes.

Through a series of fun and engaging activities, children will learn about the basic elements of abstract art such as color, form, line, and texture, and how to use these elements to create unique and expressive artworks. Program Description: Are you ready to go on an exciting jungle adventure with robots? In this program by Engineering For Kids, students will tackle a variety of engineering challenges and use the Robotics to develop innovative solutions. They will learn about jungle ecology, as well as valuable coding concepts, such as sequences, loops, conditional statements, and debugging. Student will learn how to build, code, test, and use the Engineering Design Process to improve their designs. This program is sure to be a roaring good time!

Program Description: Our Financial Literacy program involves teaching the principles of Financial Literacy through fun games and interactive challenges.

FUN GAMES
Our fun games teach children about money, why it’s made, what it means, how to manage it. Principals such as spending, saving, investing and giving are covered in detail through our fun financial games.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Students develop their own entrepreneurial projects, going from concept to design, and investigating principals such as market demand, expenses, revenues, profit and cash flow.

FINANCIAL TERMS
Students learn about important financial concepts such as debt, credit, electronic banking vs. real money, real estate, increasing value in the market, time vs. money, trading and stocks.

Program Description: An opportunity for students to learn to play ukulele and sing together in a group setting. In a world where the touch of a button or finger swipe brings an immediate response, piano lessons help your child to develop a healthy work ethic and an understanding of the idea of delayed gratification. Learning to play the piano promotes cognitive skills such as memory development, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills.

The TMS piano program aims to encourage an ‘I can do it’ feeling and build self-esteem. Monthly performance classes provide a platform where students can share their talents and enjoy a social connection with other musicians, and develop presentation skills.

The curriculum is drawn from a variety of source materials from classical to jazz/popular, depending upon where the student gravitates to. Students wanting to follow the path towards mastering classical music must have an acoustic piano in the home.

Lori Cotton has 45 years of experience teaching piano. Her classically trained students are regular recipients of awards and scholarships from music festivals and receive First Class Honours, and Honours with Distinction on RCM examinations.
